RESEARCH

ENTOFOOD project was initiated in 2010 in Madagascar. R&D continued in Malaysia to study and optimize zootechnical performances of the Black Soldier Fly, nutritional profiles of the insect-based products and gain acknowledgment in their application in livestock and aquaculture.


DEVELOPMENT

During the past 3 years ENTOFOOD gathered a large factual database on the insect zootechny. This gives us a unique asset to offer services, forecasts and industrial development with a very high degree of reliability. Since our inception we have produced 6 billion eggs, 30 million broodstocks and achieved 2000 grow-out cycles within our pilot phase.


PRODUCTION

ENTOFOOD has conceived, studied and validated automated production lines (processing of organic side-stream, grow-out facility, harvesting and processing of finished products) to enable rollout of large-scale operations.
Technical choices have been made taking into account market needs of volume, production cost and quality.


Hermetia illucens – Black soldier fly

The Hermetia Illucens is a large diptera found in tropical and temperate area.
The larvae is a detritivorous invertebrate which can feed on a very wide range of organic matter.
Once mature, larvae are harvested and processed into final products.

  • Alternative to fishmeal. ENTOFOOD BSF meal is used in compound feed for animal nutrition.

  • The live larvae are used for all stages of development in aquaculture, free-range livestock, pets or ornamental fish.

  • BLACK SOLDIER FLY LARVAE OIL

  • Used in animal nutrition for its energetic quality, ENTOFOOD BSF oil is integrated in the production of compound feed or used as coating for pellets.

  • BIOFERTILIZER

  • ENTOFOOD process generates no waste. The by-product of the process is the biofertilizer rich in major nutrients (N-P-K) and trace elements of natural origin.

Short life-cycle: 30-40 days
High fecundity: 900 eggs per spawn
Fast growth: grow-out completed in 7 days
Detritivorous species with a large feeding regime: can valorize a wide range of by-products from the agro-industry as well as all kinds of food wastes
Excellent nutritional profile (low chitin content)
High resistance to diseases (any known disease as of today)
Autogenous species: adult doesn’t eat
Non invasive species, not a carrier of disease for livestock or human
Wide distribution: present in all continents, which enable us to roll out the technology in any country without introducing foreign species

THE ENTOFOOD SOLUTIONS

ENTOFOOD masters the bioconversion technology which enables the recycling of organic side-streams as well as food waste through the action of insect larvae in a controlled environment. It produces feedstuffs such as protein and fat. Our products have been tested on various species in different regions.
